Frequently Asked Questions
What is educational counseling? ⌄
Educational counseling provides guidance to families navigating school-related concerns, including IEPs, 504 Plans, and learning or behavioral challenges. The goal is to help parents understand options and feel confident advocating for their child.
How is this different from advocacy? ⌄
Educational counseling is consultative. Julie provides expert guidance, recommendations, and support, but does not attend school meetings, provide legal advocacy, or act on behalf of families.
Do I need to have an IEP or 504 Plan already? ⌄
No. Families at any stage are welcome — whether you are just beginning to have concerns, considering an evaluation, or already have a plan in place and want guidance.
Do you review school documents before we meet? ⌄
Yes. Your initial consultation includes review of relevant documents. We will ask that you send IEPs, evaluations, report cards, or other relevant documents ahead of time so your consultation can be as personalized and productive as possible.
Is this covered by insurance? ⌄
No. Educational counseling is a consultative service and is not billed through insurance.
